DESCRIPTION:Dear BFGHS Members\,\nYou’re invited to join our BFGHS Book Club! \nOur first selection is Slavery After Slavery by historian Dr. Mary Frances Berry\, a powerful examination of what happened to Black families after the Civil War and the ways apprenticeship laws and the legal system continued to impact Black children and families for generations. \nAs genealogists and family historians\, this book gives us an opportunity to look beyond names and dates and explore the records\, laws\, family connections\, and circumstances that shaped the lives of our ancestors and their descendants. \nOur Book Club Schedule\n\n\n\nTuesday\, September 29 | 6:00 PM AZ Time \n\n\nTuesday\, October 27 | 6:00 PM AZ Time \n\n\nSaturday\, November 14 | Final Meeting + Special Presentation from the Author \n\n\n\nFor our first meeting\, we’ll discuss our reading\, share thoughts and questions\, and begin exploring how the book connects to genealogy and family history. \nRegistration is required to participate.
