You’re invited to join our BFGHS Book Club!
Our first selection is Slavery After Slavery by historian Dr. Mary Frances Berry, a powerful examination of what happened to Black families after the Civil War and the ways apprenticeship laws and the legal system continued to impact Black children and families for generations.
As genealogists and family historians, this book gives us an opportunity to look beyond names and dates and explore the records, laws, family connections, and circumstances that shaped the lives of our ancestors and their descendants.
